Complete! The western terminus of the CAT, along Ferry Point from the new Sea Plane Lagoon Ferry Terminal to West Atlantic is a walking promenade and a protected two-way bikeway.
Site A on West Atlantic Ave (Ferry Point to Main Street) - 0.3 miles completed in 2020
Complete! This segment, with new sidewalks and a protected two-way bikeway, was built by developers as part of the Site A development.
Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway/Atlantic Ave (Main Street to Constitution Way) - 0.9 miles completed in 2020
Complete! This segment includes separate walking, bicycling, and jogging paths in a former railroad right-of-way along Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway from Main Street to Webster Street, as well as one short city block along Atlantic between Webster Street and Constitution Way with sidewalks and two-way separated bicycle lanes. In 2025, the City installed additional traffic signal upgrades for all five intersections in this corridor, which make bicycling and walking safer and more convenient.
Cross Alameda Trail: Main Street to Constitution Way Project
Jean Sweeney Open Space Park (Constitution Way to Sherman St) - 0.6 miles completed in 2018
Complete! This segment includes separate walking and biking paths inside Jean Sweeney Open Space Park, a new park when it opened in 2018. Additionally, in 2026 the City opened four connector trails providing north-south access between the Cross Alameda Trail and Eighth Street, Wood Street, Challenger Drive, and Triumph Drive. Major grant funding sources for this enhancement included Alameda County's transportation sales tax - Measure B and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's TFCA County Program Manager funds.
Clement Ave Extension next to Del Monte (Sherman St to Entrance Rd) - 0.26 miles completed in 2022
Complete! Built by the Del Monte housing developer along with major roadway improvements, this segment includes sidewalks and a protected two-way bikeway.
Clement Ave (Entrance Rd to Ohlone Way) - 0.2 miles completed in 2017
Complete! This segment contains sidewalks and two-way separated bicycle lanes. It was the very first segment of the Cross Alameda Trail, built by the developer of the adjacent housing development.
Clement Ave Extension (Ohlone Way to Grand St) - 0.15 miles completed in 2026
Complete! This segment includes sidewalks and a protected two-way bikeway. The land between Hibbard St and Grand St, formerly owned by Pennzoil, was remediated and then developed with new housing and a new roadway segment with Cross Alameda Trail elements.
Clement Avenue (Grand St to Broadway) - 1.2 miles completed in 2024
Complete! This project constructed the Cross Alameda Trail in the street right-of-way, as a two-way separated bicycle lane on the north side of Clement Ave, and with sidewalk improvements. In 2021, the 0.4 mile segment from Grand to Willow was mostly completed by the developer of the Alameda Marina housing development. The eastern 0.7 mile segment to Broadway, plus remaining enhancements to the portion built in 2021, was completed in 2024.
Clement Avenue Project
Clement Avenue/Tilden Way (Broadway to Fruitvale Bridge) - 0.2 miles in progress
Construction underway! The project uses the abandoned railroad right-of-way along the eastern terminus of Clement Avenue and Tilden Way to extend the Cross Alameda Trail between Broadway and the Miller-Sweeney (Fruitvale) Bridge. The City acquired the former Union Pacific Railroad property along the western edge of Tilden Way in 2021. Construction began in 2025 and is expected to be completed in early 2027.
