World of Wonder (WOW) Program

Our World of Wonder (WOW) Program has been the favorite way for kids ages 5 to 11 years, completed All-Day Kindergarten to 4th Grades as of Summer 2019, to spend their summer vacation and for parents to be assured of the security of a supervised recreational care program.

All activities are geared toward a weekly theme.  Activities include the following:  cooking, crafts, grames, drama, nature, swimming, walking excursions, and much, much, more!!

  • Snacks are included and all participants need to bring a bag lunch daily unless otherwise notified.
  • All participants must apply plenty of sunscreen and bring it to reapply throughout the day.
  • It is recommended that all participants wear play clothes, socks and comfortable walking shoes - no sandals or backless shoes.
  • WOW sites are open from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (CLOSED JULY 4TH).  You may drop off and pick up your child any time during those hours, but all children must be picked up by 5:30 p.m.
  • You cannot leave your child at a WOW site without a completed registration form and payment in the ARPD office.
  • NO SINGLE DAY REGISTRATIONS - NO EXCEPTIONS!  Spaces are all first-come, first-served.  Should you choose to pay week by week, there is a possibility that your PREFERRED WOW SITE may be full.  There is no priority given to current site participants.  SPACES ARE NOT HELD WITHOUT PAYMENT.  Please plan accordingly.

The Alameda Recreation and Park Department offers many other optional recreational, sports or science camps and classes throughout the summer.  These activities only take place during a portion of the day.

To help our working parents and to keep kids busy throughout the whole day, ARPD offers an opportunity for parents/guardians to combine our before and after extended care WOW Program along with these other camps/classes.  We call it WOW-X!

There is a $15 withdrawal fee per participant per session.  The remainder of your fees may be left as a credit to be used in the future or refunded back to you.  If you need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible so we can contact those on the waiting list.
