Alerts & Advisories

Road Closures and Traffic Delays (multiple)

  • Starting Tuesday, August 15: Two segments of the waterfront trail (aka Shoreline Park) leading up to the Bay Farm Island bike bridge will close back-to-back from August 15-September 8 while the City widens and repaves the trail, eliminating hazardous conditions and creating a smooth walking and riding surface. Many young people use these trails as they travel to and from school. Marked detours are in place:
    • Phase 1 “U” Detour: Sheffield to Puddingstone to Robert Davey Jr. to Packet Landing OR Island Dr/Veterans Court

    • Phase 2 “U” Detour: Sheffield to Puddingstone to Robert Davey Jr. to Island Dr/Veterans Court

Please use extra caution in the area. During both phases, avoid using the sidewalk on the north side of Robert Davey Jr, from Puddingstone to Packet Landing, since the EBMUD project at the Packet Landing corner has closed this crosswalk. We are working hard to finish the work quickly and will open the improved trail sooner if possible. Check out the bikeway facilities for planning your alternate route here: https://bikewalkalameda.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/AlamedaBikeMap-2.pdf

After this project is complete, we’ll be repairing other trail segments on Bay Farm! In the meantime, please report service requests to https://seeclickfix.com/us-ca-alameda/report.

  • August 16: The Webster Tube (entering Alameda) will be closed overnight from 10pm to 4:30am the following morning for maintenance. Detours will be in place to assist motorists.
  • Starting Monday, June 12: Caltrans will start work on the Encinal paving project between Sherman and Broadway, providing motorists with a smoother ride, and enhancing safety for pedestrians and wheelchair users. Caltrans will make every effort to minimize inconvenience as the project moves along. Impacts to the public and motorists may include:
    • Temporary traffic control with lane closures on both Encinal Avenue and side streets that cross Encinal Avenue
    • Posted temporary No Parking signs on some areas of Encinal Avenue
    • Existing curb ramps will be removed and replaced with new curb ramps that meet current standards
    • Existing manhole frames, covers, and utility valve boxes will be adjusted
    • Existing asphalt paving will be removed and new paving and striping completed

This Caltrans project is expected to be complete in Summer 2024.

  • Sherman Street to Marina Village Parkway, block by block: East Bay Municipal Utility District's Oakland Inner Harbor Crossings Project replaced an existing transmission pipeline crossing near the Posey Tube that has reached the end of its useful life. The project continues through 2023, starting with limited daytime road closures on Sherman St, and moving block by block toward Marina Village Pkwy.
  • Alameda Point: Pan Am, between W Tower and W Midway, and W Midway, between Pan And Saratoga will be closed through the end of the year to install additional new underground utilities and construct brand new roadways with bike and pedestrian facilities, landscaping, and street lighting. The City is working closely with the adjacent neighbors and others directly impacted by these road closures. Detours are in place.
