Status: Night work and closure of Park Street at Clement Avenue is scheduled to begin Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10 pm. The City of Alameda will be removing existing railroad tracks and preparing Clement Avenue for paving Thursday, May 2, starting at 10pm. This work is similar to what has been completed on Clement Avenue between Broadway and Willow Street in recent weeks.
Night Closure Details:
- Contact: For questions or concerns, please contact the City's On-Site Inspector Tony Caravantes at 707-301-6833, Resident Engineer/Project Manager Scott Buckley at 925-989-3806, or Deputy Public Works Director Robert Vance at 510-225-5902.
- Night Closure: The Park Street and Clement Avenue intersection will close on Thursday, May 2, at 10:00 pm, and reopen by Friday, May 3, at 6:00 am.
- Detours: Detours will be in place during the late-night closure.
- Paving & Noise: Pavement work will continue on Clement Avenue throughout Friday morning, May 3. Expect noise outside of the usual construction hours (7 am - 7 pm), particularly for the blocks between Broadway and Oak Street.
- Project Progress: Upon completion of this work, two-way traffic will return to Clement Avenue, and on-street parking will be restored where available.
- Next Phase: Intermittent detours and parking restrictions may still be necessary as construction continues, leading to final paving, improved pedestrian access, and the installation of a two-way separated bikeway later this year.
Background: The City-led project will construct the Cross Alameda Trail between Willow Street and Broadway while ensuring that this designated truck route is in a good state of repair. Clement Avenue is the main thoroughfare in the Northern Waterfront area and is a gateway to Oakland, Fruitvale BART and beyond. This project includes two travel lanes for automobiles and trucks, a two-way separated bikeway on the north side of the street, parking on the south side of the street and intermittent parking on the north side of the street, high visibility crosswalks, curb extensions and daylighted intersections between Grand Street and Broadway, sidewalk/curb ramp improvements and railroad track removal.
