The Alameda Recreation and Park Department's Preschool offers a recreation based program for children ages 3 to 5 years, Pre-Kindergarteners (entering Kindergarten Fall 2025).

ARPD follows the Four Basic building blocks of school readiness pyramid as designed by First 5 of California which includes the following:  Self-Care & Motor Skills, Self-Regulation, Social Expression and finally Academics.

ARPD is a viable choice for families in Alameda including those families who have chosen to home school their children.  Participation is this program will help develop strong social skills and expressions.

Please note:  We must meet a minimum of 6 students to open classes 

ARPD Programs follow all County and State Health protocols.

How Do We Register?

REGISTRATION FOR 2024 FALL SESSION BEGINS ONLINE, IN-PERSON OR BY MAIL ON TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2024

EMAIL your completed registration form, proof of your child's age and credit card # to:  arpd@alamedaca.gov
MAIL or DROP OFF your completed registration form, proof of your child's age and payment to the ARPD Main Office, 2226 Santa Clara Ave, Alameda, CA 94501
Fax and Phone Registrations are not accepted
If your Fall Tiny Tot site is full, we encourage you to add your child's name to the waiting list.  Just complete a registration form and email it to:  arpd@alamedaca.gov and we can assist you with this.  You can also add your child to the waiting list through our online registration system as well.  Should a spot open up, we will contact parents from the waiting list.

Please provide details regarding your child's medical needs and/or any physical, emotional or developmental disabilities he/she may have.

Safety is of the utmost importance for all ARPD participants.  Providing ARPD with this information is necessary so that we may determine if and how we can safely support your child.  Accommodations are made on a case-by-case basis with a Program Supervisor.

  • There is a $1 per minute late fee per child for every minute you are late picking up your child from the program - payable that day
  • No credits, refunds or make-ups given when your child is absent from the program
  • ID required with child is picked up
  • Dress your child appropriately for outdoor activities.  All children need to wear socks and closed-toed shoes.
  • Bring a water bottle to class
  • NO LARGE BACKPACKS.  You may pack a "just in case" clothes in a small backpack
  • LIGHT SNACKS:  A light snack is provided in class.  If your child has a food allergy, please provide your own snack for your child in a bag with child's name on it.
All Children Must Be:
Correct Age On The First Day Of Class
Completely Potty-Trained
Able To Attend To Their Own Personal Needs To The Best Of Their Ability
Able To Separate From Their Parents And Parent From Child

2024 FALL SESSION DATES (14 Weeks): 
Tuesday, September 3 to Friday, December 13, 2024
No Classes on:  November 11, 25-29, 2024

PROGRAM HOURS:

  • Morning Classes:  9:00 am to 12:00 noon
    (Please note:  Leydecker Classes Cancelled Due To Low Enrollment)
  • Afternoon McKinley Classes:  12:00 noon to 3:00 pm
    (Please note:  McKinley Afternoon Classes Cancelled Due To Low Enrollment)

If you choose to register online, you must make a full payment.

If you wish to set up a payment plan (2 or 4 payments), please email your completed Registration Form, your child's proof of age and credit card # to arpd@alamedaca.gov. The first installment payment is due at the time of registration. Contact ARPD Staff know if you would like to set up auto payments on your credit card.

2 DAYS (Tuesday/Thursday)

Full Payment:  $756.00
Two Payments:  $393.00 each
Four Payments:  $196.50 each

3 DAYS (Monday/Wednesday/Friday)

Full Payment:  $1,134.00
Two Payments:  $582.00 each
Four Payments:  $291.00 each

**NEW FOR 2024 FALL SESSION:  All Park Sites are open to those 3 to 5 years old, Pre-Kindergarten**

  • You may register for 5 days by combining a Monday/Wednesday/Friday class with a Tuesday/Thursday class
  • You can even select two different park sites
  • Make it an all day experience by signing up for a morning class along with an afternoon class as well!
  • A bag lunch is required if your child is attending the afternoon session(s)
  • MUST MEET A MINIMUM OF 6 STUDENTS TO OPEN CLASSES
